Peaceful Wind

10. Stupa
Nepal
15th-16th c.
7 1/2" tall
Stupa
Detail:close-up of central shrine
This finely wrought image of stupa likely represents the great monument of Swambhunath in the Kathmandu valley, the focus of Newar Buddhist veneration. Almost every Newar Buddhist household would contain a small image of this great stupa, but this sculpture is finer than most. The proportions approach perfection.
