This crown may have been intended for wearing in a sacred dance performance, or perhaps was used to adorn the figure of a deity in wood or clay; it is likely that the figure was a Dakini, the young female goddesses so important to the tantric Buddhist tradition. The crown shows signs of damage and repair; the decorative elements under the skulls appear to have been re-affixed.
