 Detail: Left corner Special Asian Furniture style in this antique Chinese desk. First, it is attractive with its reddish brown finish and highly decorative carvings of geometric and floral patterns. The drawers have a working locking mechanism and when removed reveal a hidden compartment. It is also special in that the carvings are repeated on the back side--facing the public. So perhaps it was crafted for use for a person of importance. The "A"-frame legs are reminiscent of the Ming style but the rest of the desk suggests the Qing Dynasty period. Detail: Back |
