12. An inscribed copper gilt plaque
Nepal
Circa 19th Century
Height: 9-1/4" (23.5cm)
An inscribed copper gilt plaque

Within a ring of flames and above a lotus base is an image of the four-armed emaciated goddess Chamunda, trampling on a corpse, her left foot resting on a lotus. She holds her attributes - a skull drum, a skull-topped trisula and a skull cup, her principal right hand in a gesture of warning. Chamunda is the form of Kali, a protectress who slew demons and drank their blood. A lengthy inscription encircles the base.
