This juban or under-kimono is hand stitched from left-over silk scraps, specifically from the ends of silk bolts, most of which bear the maker's mark or other hand written notations. As some of the notes are written using Western lettering and numbering, we can deduce that the silk bits used to compose this under garment date from the late nineteenth century, most likely they date from the early part of the twentieth century.
