Depiction of the Buddha’s life within the palace

Sākyamuni’s life within the palace, marked by certain events and miracles. To the left above, the emanation carrying the white elephant into Māyā’s side as she sleeps. To the right, the Buddha awaits his rebirth in the Tusita heaven amongst gods and attendants. On the far left, the birth of Siddhārtha from Māyā’s right side, attended by her younger sister. Just beneath the Buddha takes his first steps, seven in each cardinal direction. There were probably lotus flowers painted on the ground around him, as they were said to have sprung forth at each point where his foot trod the ground. He points with his right hand towards the sky as he exclaims the famous phrase, "In the Heavens and on Earth, only I am the Venerable One."
