From the Indian mahasiddhas Tilopa and Naropa depicted at the top of the fourteeth-century painting Footprints of the Third Karmapa to Tenzing Rigdol's contemporary visualization of his experience living in exile, the works in this section reflect the transcultural connections that have contributed to traditional Tibetan Buddhist visual cultures, as well as the varied realms in which contemporary Tibetan artists operate. Within the techniques, subjects, and materials of the works, we find an array of cultural influences that Tibetan artists have adopted to construct a unique approach to expression.
