Faberge Egg

Faberge Egg

In his quest for new challenges Kitamura has been inspired by the works of Carl Faberge and completed a kogo (incense container) in the form of an egg, resting on the wings of a dragonfly. In his recognition and homage to the tradition of Japanese lacquer, he sees this as 21st century Namban, Heisei Namban. Kitamura san believes that the complete egg shape has been made for the first time in lacquer history. The technique in the eggs stand is also of importance as it is only the sixth piece that the studio has produced using the previously lost technique of somada (attributed to the family of lacquerers).
