I have bought this nephrite jade axe from a collection of a antique dealer who passed away. Is it Hongshan or later? The holes are not drilled but ground out biconicle. It measures 22 cm.

The few Hongshan carvings I have seen are very fine and delicately carved. Your item should be kept as a study piece of what ancient carvings do not look like.

Nicely and carefully crafted good HS copy.
I Could explain how and why but this is not place.

Let's reverse the logic: experienced collectors and dealers would pay good money to get an authentic Hs item, what are the chances ?

But I have seen worst copies all over, this one is decent somehow, still quite a few give away.

This is almost certainly Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD). Tons and tons and tons of Hongshan and Liangzhu style artifacts were created during the Han Dynasty. They brought both previous jade cultures back to life, so to speak.

What this has almost NO CHANCE of being is a modern reproduction.
