Your Tea set might originate from the Indonesian island of Ambon in the Moluccas.
I know of one example in the Reiss Engelhorn Museums in Mannheim, Germany. Their tea service comes from the collection ‘Objects from the Great Art Chamber of His Royal Highness the late Grand Duke Leopold of Baden’ from 1876 and has been in the museum since 1935. It was probably made in the 19th century and came to the West during colonial rule.
The Portuguese were the initial European nation to explore the abovementioned island in 1511. Alongside the Portuguese, the Dutch and British also vied for dominance in the spice trade from the 16th century onward.Up until the 19th century, Europeans sustained the largest production of cloves in the world.
Hope this helps. Please keep us in the loop if there are future developments.
With kind regards
Madria
