Subject:Proverb variation
Posted By: Irwin Sun, Jun 15, 2025 IP: 174.127.209.134

The commentary on Chuta's sketch seems to be a variation of the proverb 一将功成りて万骨枯る (one general’s success comes at the cost of ten thousand bones). Would appreciate confirmation of what is actually written.

一将功成らず
勇骨枯る

Isshō kō narazu yūkotsu karu
Ibara (Shimoto)*

ca. A single general cannot accomplish the feat,
only brave bones (soldiers) are sacrified
Ibara (Shimoto)*

* I am not sure about the right reading
