Subject:Assistance in Identification of Japanese Art
Posted By: Redcatcher Tue, Jun 24, 2025 IP: 50.111.142.1

Good morning all.
I have had this piece for years. It was originally owned by an entertainer who toured with a USO group in the Pacific from 1944-1946. Would anyone be able to identify this piece and let me know what exactly it is and what it says? It measures approximately 32.5 x 12.5. Thank you in advance for any information.

Dear Redcatcher ,

The inscription reads 湖龍斎 (Koryusai) from the japanese painter and Ukiyo-e (woodblockprint) artist Isoda Koryusai (礒田湖龍斎, 1735–1790).

It doesn't seams original to me. Considering the big format of the work this could be offset print copiyng the original work by this artist. But I am not sure on this issue, since we assume this is a paint.

Best Regards,
Renato Araújo
