Subject:Very Rare Unique one of a kind Ming
Posted By: Steen Wed, Jul 02, 2025 IP: 83.92.110.13

Hi
Just want to share this, in my opinion, very rare One of a kind, Unique Chinese Ko-sometsuke Dish-
Its Ko-Sometsuke Late Ming and have six character Chenghua mark, but Tianqi 1621-1627.
Its a Rabbit and moon dish made for the japanese market around 1624 used for tee ceramonys.
Why I call it rare and one of a kind Unique is that you see the painter has forgotten to paint the blue cobolt on the left side and still the dish got through to glazing and firering, simply the one who paintet it forgot to add the last strokes of blue and it went through inspection and came out as it is.
Iam aware about wabi-sabi but I dont think this was made on purpose.
The same dish I hold was auctioned at Duran Arte Lot 1019 as 6 dishes, on 28 sep 2023, not sold, then again at Christies 13 dec 2024 lot693 , three dishes, pictures that was put up show the same plate I hold today.
So what do you think, rare, unique, one of a kind??
Comments welcome
the same dish I have today.

Just a guess, but I wonder if this dish was decorated by more than one individual? Maybe one person drew the outlines (possibly aided by some sort of template), and then the dish was passed (sort of assemble line fashion) to a second person who filled the outlines in but in the rushed work environment (time being money) those areas were skipped by the painter and then either missed or passed by the quality control person.

Yes I agree, but we never gonna know, Unfortunately. But I think that someone rush the dish through and inspection crew did not see that dish and now we are here 400 years later
