Subject:Help identifying artist’s seal and Classical Chinese inscription on Japanese fan painting
Posted By: Vincent Thu, Jul 03, 2025 IP: 78.210.219.219

Hello everyone,

I'm seeking assistance identifying the artist of a traditional fan painting that contains an inscription in what I think to be Classical Chinese and a red artist's seal.

The inscription, according to google, seems to include the line 「乙亥之秋」 ("autumn of the yihai year"), which I understand could correspond to 1875 or 1935. Another part seems to be (again, google translate magic or trick) 「成海墨屋」, which might translate to something like "Ink Studio of Chenghai"???.

The red seal beneath the inscription appears to be a stylized personal seal, but I’m having difficulty reading it clearly.

I’ve attached high-resolution images of both the seal and the inscription. Any help deciphering the seal or identifying the artist or studio would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your time and expertise!

Google is mistaken with respect to the date and artist's name in the inscription; please post images of the painting itself
