When the Great General (Toyotomi Hideyoshi) was
returning from Kyūshū to Kyōto, he encounterd a difficult wind at the shoals of Mamaitazaki, off the coast of Buzen Province. His shipmaster Yojibei (who was responsible) was put to death and thrown into the sea. Since then, the site was known as Yojibei Straits.
