Thanks for having moderated my latest post. Mr Naguy I couldn't find a track of a Wu Shutang as the founder of the Guangdong Academy of Painting from anywhere. On another hand You Shutang was a famous painter of the Qing dynasty that ended in 1912, so he couldn't have been born in 1918.

Also the seal you identified as being of an obscure 'Yaming' actually seems to be that of Cui Qi, a well-known calligrapher.

So you may also delete my other posts as 'VIALLE' or 'chud' because I'll not come on this forum again since I can't trust the infos I'm given.

You Shutang 游樹棠 1918-? ( He was still alive in 2003)
A better known painter in Guandong province. He was the founder of Guandong Painters' Academy in the 1950s. Was a member of Guangzhou Artists Association. Worked as librarian in the Guangzhou Museum of Literature and History.
I could find one landscape from him on the kongfz.com for RMB2500 (US$370).
(Informations from several Chinese language net sites)

As can be seen from the above, I did not write about any painter named Wu Shutang. The person I wrote about was You Shutang, who was born in 1918.
On the other hand, there is no famous Qing dynasty painter with name Wu Shutang in literature.
You were probably confused by the following E-Bay site with an incorrect name.

The correct reading of the name is You Shutang (游樹棠). If you look closely at the seal and signature, they match yours. The lesson here is that the internet is full of mistakes.
It's also helpful if someone in the household knows Chinese.

2,
Cui Qi 崔琦 has a different signature and seal.
It may be that the superficial Chinese eye, unaccustomed to calligraphy, cannot tell the difference between Yan (雁) and Cui(崔), but Ming (鳴)and Qi(琦) are difficult to confuse, not to mention the engraving of the seal.

Hello Naguy,

the ebay announcement is mine :)

I don't know where I picked that 'Wu' from but it's now fixed, I know my two paintings are by You Shutang, I'm just seeking to find a confirmation of what you told me about that artist before to add these infos to my announcement, unless you may give me a clue.

It's not that I don't believe you on word... : )
