Posted By: Gabry Wed, Jan 21, 2026 IP: 79.46.130.180

Greetings to all Oriental art enthusiasts. Does anyone know the author of the painting or can read the signature and seals? Thank you for your attention and best regards,
Gabry

Dear Gabry,

I am just an African-Brazilian student, and based on my reading, the vertical handwritten inscription reads 勝章 and this could be pronounced as "Shōshō" or possibly "Katsushō". It appears to be a gō (an art name).

The red seals are dificult. They seem to correspond to the classical phrases "上書" (Ue/Kami-Sho/Kaku), often interpreted as "Written by," and "謹製" (Kinsei), meaning "Respectfully Produced." Together, they create a formal and respectful way for an artist to sign their work.

Best regards,
Renato Araújo from Brazil
