Subject:Date on Japanese Scroll Box
Posted By: J. Boussinesq Wed, Feb 27, 2019 IP: 2600:1702:1d80:a040:

Hello All,

For the Japanese scroll box below, I can read the date as Showa 7 year, 12th month (昭和七年 十二月) (or December, 1932), but can't read the two characters below. Are these date modifiers? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

The two characters read in Sino-Japanese;
求之 - Kore wo motomu - Purchased it
With regards,

Dear I. Nagy and Rat,

Thank you for the help once again. This is quite useful as it had been bothering me for a while.

求之. Not related to the date. Literally it means "seeking it". I'm not sure whether that's a Japanese given name, but it could be an art name referring to a Chinese expression 寤寐求之 about constant endeavor
