Subject:Request help identifying Lamp Vase
Posted By: Roger Thu, Mar 07, 2019 IP: 2601:281:c202:b68a:f

Greetings All!
I would greatly appreciate any thoughts on this vase/lamp. I don't normally go after lamps, but this vase seems to be well done. Is this Chinese? Unfortunately, I don't have any photos of the actual base.

Thanks much in advance!

This is mostly speculation, but I believe your lamp base may be Chinese, a circa 3rd quarter, 20th century product of one of the Hong Kong or Macao ornamentation factories, attempting to emulate a Fukagawa 'Chocolate Imari' item. The 'mon'-style roundels help the intended effect but the brownish glaze seems to have proven hard to control. The octagonal and/or hexagonal shape also strikes me as something seen more in Chinese pieces during the 60s & 70s. Here are links to gotheborg.com images of similar features and forms produced in Macao at that time. The second item had a label of 'Made in Hong Kong', though its Jiaqing mark is firmly linked to Macao.
