Subject:Chinese vase ID - or is it not Chinese?
Posted By: Paul Fri, Apr 26, 2019 IP: 2600:8801:9700:234f:

It's made of bronze and is 8.5" tall. There are no identifying marks on it.

Any ideas of origin and age?

Thanks

I believe it could be a Japanese Ikebana metal flower vase. I have a similar one that was made into a lamp

I believe this vase, with a band of archaic decoration, probably is Japanese, dating to around the late Meiji-Taisho period, or about 1900-1925. Yours looks to have the kind of thin, lightly soldered base plate that was easily drilled or knocked out to make what was then those newfangled electric lamps. See the embedded link below for another one from a British auction.

Best regards,

Bill H.
