Subject:Plates in Satsuma Style stamped Made in Japan
Posted By: Jo Potsie Tue, May 07, 2019 IP: 90.254.133.223

Hi there,
I was hoping someone may have seen this mark before and be able to ID it?

I have researched Japanese marks with no success. Although, I suspect it will not be very old, given the stamp transfer. Maybe 50s?

Many thanks in advance.

In my opinion the Japanese mark reads from right to left: 本谷 Motoya.
Motoya marks are usually found on Kutani ware from the 1930's. But little is known about this firm (studio? workshop?).
It's a pity you didn't show the object itself.
Regards,
Martin.
