Subject:Help identifying the age of this vase and anythign cool about it
Posted By: Tank Sat, Jul 06, 2019 IP: 2600:8800:4900:1327:

I inherited this vase when my grandmother passed away and it's been in my family for years. I plan on keeping it, but know almost nothing about it. It's a unique piece for the fact that there is multicolored dropped glass that goes over the spout/lip of the vase and coats most of the interior of the spout. I'd love to find out more about this piece. From what I can find online myself, I think the it's possibly traditional Chinese.

If it helps, the dimensions are 8” Tall x 2 ½” Base x 5” max diameter x 2 ½” Top opening

Hi,

You're right. It is a Chinese vase.

The technique used is known as "cloisonné". Basically, they inlay enamel on some metal, in this case brass to create the décor.

A lot were made towards the end of the 19th and the XXth century as pieces for visiting Westerners to take back home with them.

Hope this helps,
