Subject:Mark on Japanese Bronze Vase
Posted By: Robert Thu, Nov 14, 2019 IP: 2600:8805:8880:234:c

Hi,
Can anyone help me read the mark on this bronze vase? It is very large at over 15 inches tall and very heavy. I assume it is Japanese.
Thank you!

大明製 鵲曰治榮届本
Made in the Great Ming (Dynasty)
Magpie* says "The conduct of state prosperity is the basic"*

* Magpie is considered to be a clever bird

*A maxim from Confucius with a slight alteration
(治世為本)

The vase despite of the marking rather looks Japanese.

With regards,
I.Nagy
