Hi, I'm looking to find out who the carver of this small jadeite tortoise is.

I really do not believe it was a signature on the bottom of your "jadeite" tortoise. I never see any modern jade carvings that were mass produced have any signatures on them. I also do not believe any older Chinese jade carvings would have any signatures on them. If I am wrong, please let me know.

Just by glancing at it, the character (if it was intended to be) almost looks like the Chinese character for Buddha. May be it was supposed to carve for a buddhist or a monk? Your guess would be as good as mine. I believe they were probably some carving lines put on the tortoise to make it look more artistic.

Also, the translucent look of it make me wonder if it was truly made of jadeite. Do get me wrong, there is indeed translucent jadeite looks like that but something just look a bit odd on the material. Have you done a scratch test or density test on it? No pun intended. Hope this helps.
