Subject:Is this vase Chinese? Spur marks or fire supports?
Posted By: Brett Mon, Mar 30, 2020 IP: 69.117.73.211

I've had this vase for a while. I love the colors and glaze. It has an opalescent blue type of glaze with shiny bits in it. I was reading an article that talked about a bowl that had a very similar glaze and they said it was Chinese. I am not sure if this is Chinese, but can anyone tell me what it looks like or a oossible date. Would the marks on the bottom be considered spur marks or fire support marks? Or maybe this is a reproduction trying to simulate those marks? The vase measures approx. 3 1/2" x 2 1/2". Thanks for any help

Possibly Chinese Shiwan ware, although the base is atypical for Shiwan. In any event it does not appear to be older than the 20th century. I, too, am attracted to these mottled blue Shiwan-type glazes.
