Subject:JAPANESE SATSUMA SMALL VASES help for reading the mark
Posted By: armand schillinger Sun, Jun 07, 2020 IP: 2a01:cb10:360:ef00:8

Dear all,
I have these 2 small 9cm high vases, they were some glue on the mark, and I took it off,
I think they are japanese satsuma and I was looking in my satsuma books and I was not able to find the mark, perhaps nihon and there is a mark read fuku but I don't know with others?
Can you help me please to identify the mark?
Sincerely and take care,
Antigone

The reason you could not find this mark in your Satsuma books is because it's Kutani ware.
The mark reads: Nippon 日本 Muraaki 村顕.
Mura-aki was the translation of the google translator, it might also be Mura-akira, Mura-ken or Mura-arawa. I'm not sure what the exact name name is.
Anyway, if you google "Muraaki Kutani" you find several pieces marked with Muraaki Ga 村顕画 (Painted by Muraaki) and often also together with kanji for Kutani: 九谷.
Date: circa 1900.
Regards,
Martin.
