Subject:Japanese Dragon Scroll
Posted By: Alexander May Fri, Jun 19, 2020 IP: 61.9.112.38

Hi, I recently acquired this Japanese hanging scroll with a dragon painted on silk.

I'm curious of the text and the artist if it's indicated.

Thank you

It's Korean,
昭和三戊辰初秋日 - On the First Autumn Day of the 3rd Year of Shōwa (1928)
(During the Japanese annexation of Korea, the Japanese era name was in use)
八十五歳 - 85 Years old
慶菊湲翁 - Kyoung Kook-won Old Man
Upper seal,
磯吉之印 - Seal of Kikhil - Pseudonym
Lower seal,
菊湲 - Kook-won - Given name

Kyoung Kook-won - Surname and given name
Unidentifiable painter,

With regards,
I.Nagy

Wow that's interesting. I wasn't expecting it to be Korean since it was purchased from Japan.

Thanks as usual Nagy!
