Subject:Satsuma Mark on Bottle Vase
Posted By: Robert Thu, Jul 02, 2020 IP: 70.166.151.3

Hi,
Can anyone help me with this mark on a Satsuma Bottle? Not sure if it's just a Nippon mark or can the maker be identified? No marks on the bottom, just this mark in the scroll.
Thanks so much!!

The mark reads: Dai 大 Nippon 日本 Kyo 京 Nishida 西田 Zo 造 Kore 之 = Great Japan Kyo(to) Nishida made this.
Date: Meiji period after 1880.

This Nishida was a potter, who had a studio in the Gojozaka area of Kyoto and was known for his Kyoto Satsuma (Kyo-yaki) in the late Meiji / Taisho period (1880-1925).

Regards,
Martin.
