Subject:Calligraphy on Chinese vase
Posted By: Riky Sun, Sep 27, 2020 IP: 79.21.24.202

I need help in translating calligraphy and mark.
Is a cyclical date included?
PS: I have already post this item time ago, but nobody helped me translating.
Only Mark Adams suggested dating to early PROC.

Thank you,
Riky

This mark is rather enigmatic. It appears to read in context "Jiangxi product made by Senyuanfa (Jiangxi Sen-yuan fa zao chu pin - 江西森源發造出品). This depends of course on whether I've read and associated the deformed characters correctly.

Despite searching the mark and maker in various character configurations on Google and in my own holdings on Jiangxi porcelain, nothing related to that industry turned up. I should note, though, that the character 'Sen/森' is found in the names of several Republic-period potters.

Also, the character 'Sen/森' by itself is the Japanese surname 'Mori'. Perhaps I.Nagy can gain some idea about a possible Japanese connection from the inscription, which may name the artist who painted the bird & flower motif.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Thank you very much Bill H.
I looked for the company you mention, but it seems not exists in the web: probably it is a minor company.
I have understand anyway that the vase is of Republic period and not PROC.

Best regards,
Riky

Inscription.
錦堂富貴 春充為力 - Auspiciousness in front of the Brocade Hall - Spring in full of force
(The first four character expression is generally used on porcelain, when the picture is composed of golden pheasant(s) and peonies)
Colophon,
倣xx方法 - Imitating xx method
Signature,
蘭某人 - Lan So-and-So

Bottom mark,
江西 - Jiangxi (Province)
森源發造 - Made by Senyuanfa (Company name)
出品 - Product

I find no trace of either the company or the decorator on the Chinese language net. With high probability Republic of China era product.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Thank you very much I. Nagy.
I looked for company and painter myself, without result.
Probably they are minors, not famous.

Best regards,
Riky
