Subject:REcognizing japanese artist or style
Posted By: JOHN Fri, Jan 01, 2021 IP: 2603:8000:d100:72c3:

Hi, I'm so curious about this painting I saw sold at auction. I wasn't the winner sadly, but would love to know more about the style or the artist. Could anybody help me with that?

The picture is Chinese, depicts a model dairy-farm in a people's commune. The style is called socialist realism. It dates back to the 1960-70s.
Seal reads,
賢 - Xian (Virtuous) - Pseudonym

With regards,
I.Nagy

I. Nagy, would you be able to help me find another painting like this? I apologize for my misidentification. The auction house actually listed it as a Japanese painting and my friend who is Japanese said the seal said “Ken”. If I were to look for another painting like this, I would just search 1960s Chinese silk painting socialist realism”?

Dear John,
I'll try to do something. Meanwhile, please see
Dec.24.2020 posting titled "Agricultural Prints" -
however they are posters printed on paper.
Otherwise, the Japanese reading of the character 賢 (Xian) is "Ken"

With regards,
I.Nagy
