Subject:Chinese art and calligraphy, looks like bronze script or seal script
Posted By: B Mon, Jan 04, 2021 IP: 73.145.84.210

Good evening,

I'm not looking for a translation of this but more what it is and possibly who the figure is. I'm not familiar with this style of Chinese art and from what I can tell the script looks like an older form of Chinese script. I've never seen this style before either where the script is white and the background is black. I can't read Chinese and google searching isn't doing me much help.

This is a rubbing from a relative new (Qing Dynasty)
stele of Yue Fei 岳飛 (1103-1142) a Chinese folk hero and military leader of the Song Dynasty. The inscriptions are written in seal script. The man on the stele depicts Yue Fei. Here I present the translation of Yue Fei's seal just above the stele text.

武勝定國軍節
度使開府儀同
三司湖北京西
路宣撫使兼營
田大使岳飛印

Seal of Yue Fei, the Military Commissioner of Wusheng Province, Commander Unequalled in Honor,
Governor of Hubei, Jingxi-lu and Yingtan Provinces

With regards,
I.Nagy

Thank you very much. I appreciate it. Are you able to tell me what the bulk of script says? I don't need a full translation as I understand that might be time-consuming, just the gist of what it says.
