Can anyone please tell me the approximate age of this old tile, and if permissible, a ball park value? Thanks very much.

Hi,

That's actually a French tile. Longwy is a ceramics and enamel manufactory located in North-Eastern France.

I'm actually in two minds about whether or not it's a tile or what the French call a "dessous de plat" (literally under the plate) which were used to keep hot dishes from burning wooden tables.

If it is, it might be missing its wooden surrounding. (see attached image) These things quite often sat on a wooden box which actually hid a musical box underneath.

If it was, then I'm afraid that plus the chipping and damage will likely have negatively affected the value.

Normally they go for around 50-100€ (so about 60-120$) if complete and working order). This is a decor I haven't ever seen before though.

Not sure if this helps.

Regards,

Apologies!

I realize that I forgot to give you an estimate of it's age.

I'd say second half of the 19th to early twentieth century.
