Subject:unusual teapot
Posted By: Giuseppe Sat, Mar 06, 2021 IP: 85.226.33.157

Hello
I wonder if someone can help me with this teapot.
Is it Chinese?
I couldn't find any similar on the web.
Thanks

It's a Japanese teapot, on the bottom are 3 Kanji characters: Dai Nippon 大日本 (Great Japan) from right to left, see my first picture.
The writing on the pot says: Kan'ei 寛永 Tsūhō 通寳 which was an inscription used on Japanese coins from 1626 until 1868 during the Edo period, see my second picture.
It's looks quite new to me, hardly any wear, in any case not 19th century
Regards,
Martin.

Thank You Martin
Can it be from the Late Meiji to Early Taisho period?

It's always hard to say from pictures how old something is. Late Meiji or Taisho is possible and suggested by the Dai Nippon mark.
Martin.

Thanks once again Martin. You are truly extraordinary. I wanted to ask you if you could give me an opinion on a vase that I believe is Japanese. I can't identify the brand but from the style it seems to me to be Japanese.
I am attaching the link.
