Subject:Chinese Statue? – What Century? # 2
Posted By: Dave H Sun, Aug 29, 2021 IP: 172.83.40.103

The closest I have been able to find online are wooden statues carved by family representing the ancestor that has passed away and then donated to the temples. It is also my understanding that these are fairly rare as very few were exported and few survived the burning of the temples during the cultural revolution from 1966 up to 1976.

From my research I have not found examples or written material similar to this statue. I'm hoping someone may have more detailed information on the statue such as colour, what this carved statue represents, sizes from different centuries etc that I can compare this statue to. Statue was gold gilded when made and now show traces of gold gilding. I would appreciate all comments on what this is. Thanks to all in advance .....
