Subject:Jade animal bowl, old or not?
Posted By: Peter Allen Mon, Sep 20, 2021 IP: 223.205.220.162

I got this from an old guy in Thailand. It was his fathers who worked with traditional medicines. It is about 20cm long, 14cm wide and 8cm high.Heavy, cool to the touch and will not scratch with a knife. I have no idea how old it is. The grayish color spots look like imbedded linen fibers, but I know it is not linen. Just fibers in the stone. How old could it be? It is original or a copy? Thank you.

Your link does not open. .
Did you do the scratch test correctly: Use a strong needle, exert enough pressure to make a 2-3 mm scratch. There must be a tiny scratch visible, white or black. If you cannot see the scratch it means that you did not use enough pressure.

Fixed the link..
If I really bear down, I get a white to silver scratch. The white also rubs off easily.

The white scratch indicates that it is softer than Jade, the silver scratch would claim that it is Jade. You may have to go to a Jeweler who deals in Jade. Or, test different spots on the carving.
Or find a jade specialist in your area.
