Trying to identify the wood on this Chinese low table and after reading and searching much about the subject, it's about as clear as mud

It appears to be Pterocarpus indicus, common name Jarra. It is also among the species referred to as Amboyna, but only the burl. Your table is interesting in so far as it is the part of the tree leading to and from the burl, which is what gives it such a fantastic figure.
There could in theory be a possibility that I am not correct in my thinking, and it is the most prized figure of genuine Dalbergia odorifera / huanghuali; however unlikely that scenario happens very much to be; but... There is a test you can do to see if I am wrong. (bear in mind these are photos I have based my opinion on) Put a small splinter of it into a glass of water. If it floats I am right. If it sinks I am totally wrong and apologise, but have never seen this Shanghai Style model made of huanghuali.
