Subject:WATERCOLOR

Watercolor, hand painted on fabric, not print, has two seals, there was an envelope on the back with the strip of Chinese letters, 36"h x 21"w. Can someone translate it, I would like to know who the artist is. Thank you and Happy Holidays.

Unfortunately the title and colophon in the picture is illegibly out of focus. A new sharp picture from the title and colophon would help to identify the painter.

Inscription on the back,
絹本 蘆塘棲雁 中堂
Silk scroll - Reeds, pond and perching geese - Central room size scroll
Seal uder this inscription
王 - Wang - Probably the owner

Seal on the picture,
式古堂書畫 - Calligraphy and Painting in Shigu Studio
Paintings with this seal were included in the 60-volume book titled "Shigu Studio Calliigraphy and Painting Collection" completed in 1682.
Your scroll is a reproduction.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Colophon reads,
乙丑元月伯文 - In January of the Year of Wood-Buffalo (....1625...) by Bowen (Pseudonym)
I have found only one Ming Dynasty painter with this pseudonym who was active at the beginning of the 17th century. His name was Wan Guozhen 萬國楨, was good at flowers, birds and bamboos.
However, it is more likely that the picture is a later Bowen's work with a copied "Shigu Studio....." seal.

With regards,
I.Nagy
