Subject:Content of a Chinese Calligraphy
Posted By: Gakusei Tue, Mar 29, 2022 IP: 178.142.134.81

I woull like to learn what is written on a Chinese calligraphy. Does the text give some information on the calligrapher, a place or a date?

大醫精誠 - Great doctor; faith and honesty
孫思邈語 - Sun Simiao's aphorism
丙戌仲秋 - In Mid-Autumn of the Year of Fire-Dog (..1886,1946)
Signature,
???畫 - Picture of ???
I can't read the very cursive signature.
The seals are illegibly smudged.
Maybe a good close up picture from the seals could help.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Thank you very much for your information, I.Nagy. Because I don't own this piece of art I can take closeups of the seals in about two weeks.
BTW, after your answer I have searched and learned much about Sun Simiao!
Respectfully
Gakusei

Hello again I. Nagy,

Dear Gakusei,
Thank you for the photos, and
sorry for not noticing your new posting.

The characters of the upper seal are hewn in their nine-fold seal script forms which are rather difficult to decipher.
I can read only two characters out of four,
天..牛.. Seems to be a kind of leisure seal

Lower seal,
成紀人氏 - Master of Chengji (Native of Chengji)

Starting seal,
羲皇故里 - Hometown of Emperor Xi
(Fu Xi (伏羲) the first mythical emperor of China)

With regards,
I.Nagy

Correctiuon,
It took some time to find and cross-check the nine-fold characters of the upper seal,
It reads,
成紀人印 Seal of Chengjiren (Man of Chengji)

With regards,
I.Nagy
