Subject:JADE PENDANT & IDENTIFICATION & TRANSLATION SOUGHT
Posted By: China Doll Sat, Jun 18, 2022 IP: 162.204.153.125

White Chinese Jade Plaque with Figure and Calligraphy Republic Period ? or Earlier ? Any input would be appreciated. It appears the carved man figure is seated and playing a musical instrument of some type? Also, any help translating the inscription would be kindly appreciated. Thank you.

洛陽尋才子 江嶺作流人
問訊梅花早 何如此地春
子岡
I went to Luoyang to visit my talented friend,
but he was exiled to Jianglin
I heard that the plum blossoms there early,
but how can it be compared to the spring here ?
Zigang (Probably, the name of artist)

Text; Tang Dynasty poet Meng Haoran`s poem "Visiting Yuan Shiyi in Luoyang and
not meeting him"

The man on the other side is playing qin, a seven-stringed plucked instrument in some ways similar to zither.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Hi China doll,
I my opinion based purely on your images that it's highly probable to be from the late Republic period 1912-1949 through to the early PROC 1949-.
The quality of the carving is OK.
Unfortunately your images are not the best as they blur when enlarged.
Its a very nice piece.
Regards,

Thank you for your reply and helpful assistance. Sorry that the pictures are not clear when enlarged. I had to resize the images for this forum. I will try to post better images in future posts. Thank you again !
