Subject:Japanese hanging scroll 01
Posted By: Horst Graebner Thu, Jun 30, 2022 IP: 178.4.21.169

I need help reading the signature on a Japanese hanging scroll.
The mounting looks like Showa period, the painting might be older as the silk is obviously still handwoven.
Two dragons ascending to Mount Fuji.
Signature: (1) 松, (2) 清 (?), (3): 崖 / 涯 (???), (4) ??, (5) 写
Seal: ??
Who is the artist?
Horst

My tentative readings,
⑴ 曉醒外史寫
⑵ 晩醒外史寫

With regards,
I.Nagy

Dear I.Nagy,
a really unique spelling!
And no matching artist found. :O
The picture doesn't seem so bad as being by an otherwise unknown artist.
Surprising.
Many many thanks.

Eventually the nanga painter Takaku Aigai (高久靄厓, 1796-1843) who used the gô Sorin Gaishi (疎林外史)?

Guy.

Thanks Guy!
Gaishi shashin/sha (外史寫/写) should be correct.
But the second character of the signature is not "林".
The search continues.

Takaku Aigai`s 高久藹崖 (incl.Sorin Gaishi 疎林外史) signatures and seals can be found on p. 628-630
of 日本書画落款印譜集成 (柏書房)
