Subject:Mask / Buddha Netsuke with Dating / Translation Request
Posted By: Chris Mon, Jul 11, 2022 IP: 2600:8801:fb00:a16:4

Hello,

Ha - I mixed up the photos of the two netsuke I intended to post today. The last one was meant to have the rat cluster photos, and this one was meant to have the mask.

So to ensure the resident SMEs didn't think it was a double-post, I figured I'd kept consistent and post the photos intended for the other thread into this one instead.

Below is the rat cluster netsuke intended for the other thread.

Thank you all once again in advance for your time and assistance!

Kind Regards,
Chris

友親 - Tomochika
Tomochika 1800-1873 was a representative netsuke master of Edo.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Despite the signature, this appears to be a 20th-century carving. The rings around the homotoshi are typical of 20th-century carvings. Also, the carving doesn't seem to be that of a master.

Cheers,
Stan

Hi Stan,

Thank you for the input on the netsuke. As I am simply cataloging my art at the present I'm not entirely sure how to account for your observation but will definitely make a note of it ("questionable authenticity" or something to that effect).

May I request your thoughts on the other one I have posted? I've attached a link below and thank you in advance for the same.

Kind Regards,
Chris
