The characters translate in mandarin Chinese as "Splendid Sushi" (Guang shou si - 光壽司). The Japanese language apparently uses different characters for this national dish.

Hope it doesn't give you indigestion,

With more than fifty years of experience of living in Japan, it is safe to say that it is Japanese.
光壽司 Hikari-zushi - ca. Splendid Sushi - Name of a sushi restaurant.
As of the object thought to be a brush pot, it is a so called "yunomi" 湯呑み or a massive large teacup, used in sushi restaurants.

(The 壽司 after the Japanese reform of characters is rewritten as 寿司)

With regards,
I.Nagy

Dear Nagy,
I apologize for replyinh now, but I could not have acces to links to see reponses I got. Something did not work, but thank to Bill H who sent me the link I could see the responses. I also want to thank to all who of you who posted a reply to me.
I could not do it before because of the link problem I had.
The ceramic is not a Japonesee teacup for restaurant, since it is an antique object, it bears two diffferents color glaze, one is an iron glaze and the other one which is over the iron glaze is a celadon white greenish glaze, with very fine crackel, you can easly see yellow spots because of natural minerals oxidation, caused over the time, a part of the cthe body is sagging. These 2 aging characteristics proves? that piece is very old. That's why isncriptions should have another meaning, like philosophy phrase, religious phrase etc.
Thank you !
Best regards
Rod

It could be a person's name reading right ta left - Si Shou Guan.

That's my suggestion.
