Subject:Chinese Guilt Bronze Ewer, Chased
Posted By: Kevin Donnelley Mon, May 17, 2021 IP: 69.120.216.76

Hi All,
A small bulbous form gilt bronze ewer w/ bird and floral patterns, ruyi trim beneath the lined collar of the rim. The chasing was done w/ very fine tools that would have been needed to produce the paper thin lined segments of the patterns. A single large hole is at the base of the spout inside

H: 2 /14"; 5.7 cm (including lid finial)
Any info would be greatly appreciated
thank you for looking,

Kind regards

Kevin

Hi,

To me, that actually looks like a Japanese teapot that was used with "Sacred fire" Buddhist alters. I've attached a photo of one, you can just make out the kettle.

I'd date it to the 19th century personally.

Apologies, this is the best picture of it I have.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

adding more views including one of the spout and collar, a close-up of the tool marks around the ruyi trim, and lastly a top view w/out the lid

Hi
Thanks so much for the post!
an example of a Buddhist ritual ewer, Japan
Kamakura period in the link. the two share almost identical dimensions. However, w/out Buddhist themed art work, I will only refer to it as a ewer.
