Subject:Help with old inscriptions on Japanese lacquer
Posted By: Suzume Mon, May 17, 2021 IP: 2a01:cb05:8886:f400:

Hi,

I have two old lacquer items. One is an incense stand and the other some lacquer sake cups. All of them are really quite high quality and in surprisingly good condition.

It just so happens that I also have the original wrapping paper for them.

From what I can tell they both seem to have come from the same shop but maybe with a few years difference between them? I think I can recognize the Imperial crest.

I'm guessing late 19th- first half of the 20th century?

If anyone could help me with the translation, I'd be most grateful.

Thanks for your time.

Regards,

Your lacquered items are Wajima-nuri (Wajima lacquerwares、made by Kashiwagi Bunsaku during the Taishō Era 1912-1926.

The inscriptions on the two wrapping papers are the same

Inscriptions,

The upper part - right from crests is illegible
on both papers,

Lower part (Horizontal)
Insurance (Maru-hō)in Force
Right side,
Ishikawa Prefecture, Noto Province
Fugeshi County, Wajima Town

Middle,
Nunogise, Honkataji*

Left side,
Lacquer Ware Maker
Kashiwagi Bunsaku

* You can find the explanation of these technical words on the net.

Hand written characters,
Mr. Keida

With regards,
I.Nagy
