Subject:help needed in identifying this wood
Posted By: S N Fri, May 19, 2017 IP: 2a00:23c4:84c7:0700:

I am trying to identify the wood used in a very old Chinese chair (see link) of unknown age (19th C or earlier). Any thoughts as to the type of wood this is, anyone? The tape measure in the photo shows 1mm graduations. Thanks for reading.

First photo looks like Rose Wood family. Not enough showing to be certain of the specific type, but the pealing layer of clear coat reminds me of mid-20th c furnot use I've seen over the years.

2nd & 3rd photo appears to be elm wood. Also looks like 20th c quality.

I didn't see a link, so I have not seen the whole chair.

Best,
Tim
