Subject:Help on markings on Japanese Satsuma Vace
Posted By: Shawn Thu, May 25, 2017 IP: 2600:1012:b022:643a: I recently picked up this Japanese Satsuma vace (or so I believe that's what it is) I tried comparing the markings beneath the vase to others online but can't seem to make sense if not. Does anyone have any idea what it says? Or any information on the maker or the vase? I love the vase and think it's beautiful, just curious as to what it says. I'll add photoss and link a photo album with more detailed photos. The worrying underneath is written in a gold paint and the vase seems to have raised paint around it. Thanks so much. |

Posted By: mario Sat, Jul 01, 2017 The central column means "Dai Nippon" (great Japan). The last character of the first column means Tzukuro or Zo that means "made by". The other two characters are da 田 and the upper, i am not sure, (Nishi?) so Nishida (?),the author of the vase. As regards the third column i don't understand. In every case in my opinion, in an early showa or late taisho period piece (1920 - 1940) |
