Subject:Found this among great aunts belonging - Fake or Real?
Posted By: Diamond Sat, Sep 30, 2017 IP: 2601:5cb:4400:b85:cf

Hi everyone, I found this among my great aunts belongings upon her passing. I'm not sure if this is something for a yard sale or not. Please help!

Dear Diamond

Could we see an image of the footrim? That is, not the turquoise shiny bit in the foot, but the rough unglazed porcelain that the piece sits on.

Dear Diamond

The mark is that of the emperor Daoguang, who lived in the early to mid 19th century.

Although the paintwork is pretty good, the foot of this object, to my eyes, is too smooth to be from the period. Also, the calligraphy looks quite clumsy.

However, calligraphy from 19th century porcelain can be clumsy, and I hesitate to dismiss this object just because of the foot - it is not a clear cut situation for me. Anyone else want to comment?

Kind regards
Jonathan

Good evening to any and all experts on this forum. Since I am someone who does not know anything about the asian language I do however find it very interesting and am trying to learn. If anyone has knowledge of other message boards such as this for valuable information, I'd would be most interested in any recommendations in support of learning.

Thank you kindly.
