Subject:What is the Chinese vases purpose?
Posted By: Axl Sträng Fri, Nov 24, 2017 IP: 2600:8805:8001:710:3 I have this odd little vase with a hole in top and can't quiter figure out was it was used for. Does anyone know what it is and the age? It is about 4 inches high and much heavier than it should be, it must be weighted? |

Posted By: CollinC Mon, Feb 05, 2018 Most probably this vase is used for Japanese tea ceremony as part of the display implement. It got the wabi-sabi look and feel to it. The design reminds me of the chinese mallet vase but I guess the design might be borrowed from it. The small hole on the top is deliberately fashioned so that only one stalk of flower can be placed on the vase, aptly on the japanese zen approach to minimalistic and natural beauty |
