Subject:Large Martaban with two dragons
Posted By: Laura Wed, Jan 10, 2018 IP: 108.50.236.93 Any help identifying this large jar with two dragons wrapped around facing each other with a cloud? and pearl in the middle? it is 27 inches tall, 65 inches round in the widest spot. What I find most interesting is that when I photographed this , faces and images can be seen in the photographs that cannot be seen by the naked eye. Or perhaps it is a trick of the camera. Please, any help would be much appreciated. Thank You in advance. |

Posted By: Bill H Sat, Jan 13, 2018 The Hong Kong scholarly publication 'Arts of Asia' had an comprehensive article on Martaban jars found in the Philippines in its September-October 1992 issue. Unfortunately the issue is out of print, but you can order a photocopy of the article for $15 at the link below if you wish. The link also shows a small inset of the issue's cover with a photo of some of the Martabans discussed in the article. |
