Subject:Chinese writing on 19th c pot
Posted By: Billy Mon, Mar 26, 2018 IP: 70.181.51.57 Hi, I have a pot (not sure what it actually is) from late 19th century. The markings are Yongzheng but I am not sure what it says. Supposedly it is a commemorative mark?? It is 4 inches high x 7 inches x 7 Inches and is very heavy almost 8lbs. Too big to be inkpot?? |

Posted By: Billy Wed, Mar 28, 2018 I think it may be a food warmer , it is very thick walled like a Japanese Hibachi and is even reinforced at corners on inside with porcelain slabs. |

Posted By: rat Mon, Apr 23, 2018 some of the other marks say it's reserved for use in the imperial household, made by Tang Ying, who oversaw the imperial atelier, etc, all just to impress the unsuspecting buyer into believing that this is a very rare and important object. The dragons and the painting look quite well executed, but I don't see why this would be a late 19th century object in particular. What are your reasons for saying that it is? |
